Frontline Plus Flea and Tick Control for Cats

Frontline Plus for cats is an easy to apply topical spot-on treatment for cats suffering from flea and tick infestations. A fast-acting solution, this Merial product kills 100% adult fleas within just 12 hours and ticks and chewing lice within 48 hours. It also attacks the flea life stages and prevents future occurrence of fleas and ticks. It is long-lasting, waterproof treatment for cats and kittens above the age of 8 weeks, and remains effective for an entire month.


Frontline Plus is a product from the house of Merial. It is a scientific formulation with fipronil and S-methoprene as the active ingredients. Manufactured to suit all breeds of cats, its rapid action kills adult fleas within 12 hours and ticks and lice within 48 hours. It also has strong killing action on larva, pupa and ova of fleas and ticks and eliminates them continuously for a month.

The waterproof treatment is suitable for breeding, pregnant and nursing felines. It protects the pets from flea and tick borne diseases like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain fever, Flea Allergy Dermatitis etc. Repeating it periodically protects cats against these parasites and the diseases spread by them.

Frontline Spray is a broad spectrum treatment for both cats and dogs that effectively treats flea and tick infestations in them. This long-lasting and effective formulation kills 100% fleas within a day's usage. It aids in controlling brown dog ticks when applied on a monthly basis and controls paralysis ticks in every 3 weeks of application.   • Use on 8 weeks and older kittens and cats. Part the fur at the base of the skull and between the shoulders and create a spot for application.
  • Put the tip of the pipette on the spot and squeeze out the solution on the spot. According to research, 0.5 ml Frontline Plus is enough for any sized cat.
  • Refrain from applying on damaged skin. Keep away from the pet’s eyes and mouth. If the solution accidently enters in the cat’s eyes then flush thoroughly with water.
  • It is suitable to use on breeding, pregnant and nursing cats. In case of treating weak or sick animals, consult a vet. 
  • The application site may turn sore, red or itchy. Do NOT allow the cat to lick that area. If the signs persist for long then contact a vet.
  • Do NOT administer Frontline Plus on cats that show hypersensitivity to alcohol or insecticides.
  • Do NOT allow other pets to groom each other until the application site is dry.
  • On licking the cat may vomit, hyper salivate or show hyperesthesia symptoms for some time. Contact a vet if such signs persist.
  • Keep away from the pet’s eyes and mouth.
  • Do NOT smoke, eat or drink while administering this flea and tick treatment.
  • Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water after applying Frontline Plus.

Q. How quickly does Frontline Plus work on fleas and ticks?

A. Frontline starts working quickly. It starts killing fleas 4 hours after treatment. It eliminates 99.9% fleas within 24 hours of application and ticks within 48 hours of application.

Q. I treated my pet with Frontline Plus, but I still see fleas in my home. Why?

A. There are three reasons, why you still see fleas in your home.

  • After application, treated fleas become more active before they die. Therefore, they come out and appear on top of the fur.
  • Fleas are hatching in the surroundings of your home and jumping onto your pet.
  • Your pet might have picked up a hitch-hiker flea.
Monthly treatment with Frontline Plus, will prevent new flea infestation and breaks flea life cycle.

Q. Can Frontline Plus be re-applied before the 30-day treatment interval is up?

A. Frontline Plus is a monthly treatment. Therefore, it is not advisable to apply the spot-on within a month. You can re-apply after 30 days. Follow labelled instructions always.

Q. My pet likes to go swimming. Will Frontline Plus still be effective?

A. Yes, Frontline Plus is water resistant. It remains effective and keeps working for a month even if your pet goes for swimming or bathing. However, it is recommended to keep your pet from getting wet for 48 hours after application.

Q. Does Frontline Plus have an expiration date?

A. No, Frontline Plus has no expiration as long as you keep it at room temperature and sealed in its original packaging.
